I am very pleased to draw attention to this project: The new book “Integrative Sports Nutrition” has been published — a comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to understand sports nutrition holistically.
And: together with two colleagues, I could contribute the chapter on fluid management in sports. Optimum hydration is key but an often underestimated performance factor. Even minor fluid deficiencies can:
- Reduce endurance and strength
- impair thermoregulation
- Reduce concentration and responsiveness
- Increase cramps and risk of injury
- delay regeneration
That is exactly why our chapter is dedicated to the most important principles, current scientific findings and practical strategies for individual fluid balance management.
What does the book stand for Integrative Sports and Exercise Nutrition?
The work combines classic sports nutrition principles with modern, integrative approaches. Instead of talking about macronutrients in isolation, it highlights interactions between:
- nutrition
- metabolism
- recovery
- stress management
- sleep
- micronutrients
- hydration
This makes the book suitable for athletes, coaches, nutrition professionals and anyone who wants to optimize performance and health based on scientific evidence.
Why I care about this project
Participating in its development — and writing an entire chapter — was an enriching experience for me. Incorporating practical experience into recommendations is a great opportunity to make very practical recommendations. In particular, the different perspectives of the authors of the individual chapters, at the same time the linking of theory and practice, make the book an exciting read. Observations from my work experience also show that fluid management is often neglected in training, although it has an enormous impact on well-being and performance. With my contribution, I would like to help make this important topic accessible with practical examples.
